As carriers for the games were used cartridges that could be inserted on the top of the console. The name in the United States had to be replaced just because it was not possible to register a trademark – Mega Drive. The first release was held in Japan, the name of the console was Mega Drive, a year later it came to the United States under the name Genesis, and a year later released in other countries, again with the name Mega Drive. Sega Genesis, also known as Sega Mega Drive or just SMD is a 16-bit video game console developed and released by Sega and is referred to the fourth generation.
